Delicious Chili for a Chilly Day
HotFlashFinds: This is my go to Turkey Bean Barbecue
Chili Recipe. I have been using this recipe for years.
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp oil ( I use olive oil)
- 3/4 lb. lean ground turkey breast
- 1 c chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1/4 c chili powder
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 can (16 oz) stewed tomatoes
- 1 c ketchup
- 1/3 c packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c molasses
- 1/4 c Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp dry mustard
- 5 cans (15 1/2 oz ea) of either dark-red kidney beans, pinto beans, cannelloni beans, black beans, or white kidney beans, rinsed and drained. ( I throw different combination of beans together depending on what I have available in my pantry or grab at the grocery store).
Method:
- Heat oil in a large stew-pot. Add turkey, onion, garlic, chili powder, and cumin. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring until turkey browns and onion is tender (about 10 minutes).
- Stir in tomatoes, ketchup, brown sugar, molassses, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Add beans. Cover and simmer 30 minutes or longer.
This recipe makes 12 servings and doubles well. Delicious served over brown rice and with some corn bread on the side.
Note: Using no-salt added canned beans reduces the amount of sodium in this recipe. Recipe originally found in Prevention Magazine.
